About

On July 15th, 2013, I decided to finally take the plunge and go vegan. As someone who has been a vegetarian several times throughout my life for various periods of time, I had always researched and felt that the right choice would be a vegan lifestyle.

I love meat. I love cheese more. I'm not one of those people who is grossed out by a piece of bacon. I love it. Do I know that it's bad for me, though? Yes. Am I against GMOs and factory farming and cruelty to animals? Also yes. So there you go.

I finally got to the point where, at 33, I was feeling sick all the time. And, I'll just be honest about it, I gained a good bit of weight and my clothes weren't fitting well. I'm not at my highest weight. In fact, just a few years ago, I lost 79lbs on the South Beach diet. I just couldn't keep it off. Well, I also got pregnant and had my son, but still.

I have been interested in reading about healthy alternatives to medicine, veganism, etc for years. I'm just finally putting those things into practice. My son's diet has also been a big inspiration. He's been on a gluten-free and dairy-free diet for a little over a year, so we've got several different ways of eating in our household.

I'm doing it all here in sunny Jacksonville, Florida with the boyfriend and our almost 3 year old son. Luckily, we live near Riverside, which is home to a slightly more alternative way of life. However, this is still Jacksonville, and a vegetable here is more likely to be boiled to a slow death and drowned in butter than anything else.

If I'm not slaving away at my day job in the mines, you can find me working in the creative world on my photography business, Green Toes Photography. In my spare time, I'm typically looking up recipes, watching Sesame Street with my son, reading, or just being awesome in general.
